The South East Community Services Co-operative (SECSC) is made up of members with an interest in developing and maintaining affordable housing and other services within South East Manitoba for seniors and our more vulnerable populations to benefit the entire community. Timberline Community Housing will be owned by the SECSC, with a board of directors elected from co-operative members that will be responsible for the strategic direction of the Co-op. General oversight of the facility will be provided by an experienced manager with strong business acumen and an understanding of the co-operative model and its value proposition.
Set up as a Community Services Co-operative, membership is available to anyone interested in getting involved to ensure seniors and our vulnerable populations have an option to remain in the region, close to family and friends. You don’t have to be a resident of Timberline Community Housing to be a member of the SECSC.
An interim board of directors was formed to register the South East Community Services Co-operative with the Manitoba Companies Office. It is comprised of two community members representing each of the three partner organizations working to move this project forward: East Borderland Community Housing, Piney Regional Chamber of Commerce and Rural Municipality of Piney. Sunrise Corner’s Economic Development Manager serves as an advisor to the board.
The Co-op held its first Annual General Meeting in March 2022 and acclaimed the interim board of directors until a member recruitment campaign could be held. If you are interested in running for the board of directors, contact us.
To create the first bylaws for the Co-op, these dedicated volunteer board members worked closely with Co-operatives First, a non-profit organization that provides resources to support rural and Indigenous leaders in Western Canada to build new businesses, grow local economies, and support community development. These bylaws were ratified by the board at the first Annual General Meeting. The bylaws can be amended as necessary.
East Borderland Community Housing Inc. has been dedicated to raising funds for seniors housing in the region since the early 2000s. As a not-for-profit registered charity, EBCH offers tax receipts for charitable giving. Keep an eye open for the variety of EBCH fundraising initiatives that happen throughout the year.
